Frequently Asked Questions
  • What are the advantages of Krypto500 and Krypto1000 over other software?
COMINT Consulting is laser-focused on SIGINT targets - terrorists, narcotraffickers, Russia, China (PRC), Iran, North Korea (DPRK) and more. As such, it offers a market-leading array of over 325 target decoders more than any other company. We do NOT offer obsolete nor legacy decoders for modes than haven't been on-air for decades, or for modes that are irrelevant to SIGINT. We also do NOT list the same mode under 5 different names and call it 5 decoders. Further, unlike other companies, our decoders contain a solution to all known modulations, all known waveforms, proprietary variants, data protocols and the appropriate parsers and other tools necessary to derive actionable intelligence from every mode. For a complete, up to date list of ELF-SHF and Satellite decoders, see our Decoders web page. For reference, the Decoders web page also has a list of all the irrelevant, obsolete and legacy modes offered by other companies.
  • What are minimum PC requirements? Can Krypto500 or Krypto1000 be run in Linux? Can they be integrated in a manpack?
Minimum requirements for PCs are stated in the datasheets, along with a list of all Windows OS (including Embedded) and all of the popular Virtual Machines (VMs) for running Linux or other OSs. Yes, Krypto1000 is already embedded in SIGINT / COMINT manpacks and runs under Windows embedded. Datasheets can be found on the Krypto500 and Krypto1000 web pages.
  • Is there a free trial available? Is the software restricted or controlled?
Krypto500 and Krypto1000 (and the KeyFinder option) are ITAR-controlled products made for the professional COMINT / SIGINT market, not for amateur or hobby use. As ITAR-controlled products, there are no demo, trial, 'light', time-limited or free versions of the software, nor can the user manuals be distributed without a license. There are no exceptions.
  • Can I perform signals analysis with Krypto500 and Krypto1000 SIGINT / COMINT software? Does it work against live signals (online) and recorded files (offline)?
Yes, both suites contain full-featured spectrum analysis tools - all the standard tools you expect and then many advanced signals analysis tools needed for COMINT and SIGINT solutions. These include tools to visualize weak, burst, hopping and other short-duration and low probability of intercept (LPI) signals. Yes, Krypto500 and Krypto1000 both work online and offline against numerous file formats (audio, data), numerous formats of IQ data, custom user-defined IQ, special intelligence community standards such as MidasBlue and other common standards such as VITA-49 and VITA-49.2.
  • Can Krypto500 and Krypto1000 SIGINT / COMINT software be used on ships, submarines, in drones (UAV, UAS, USV, UUV)?
Yes. Both Krypto500 (ELF-HF) and Krypto1000 (VHF-SHF and Satellite) are compatible with more than 400+ hardware devices. These include receivers, SDR, DF and Geolocation systems, digitizers, wideband recorders and more. A complete list can be found on our Systems web page. If for some reason, you don't see your hardware listed, please contact us and we'll be happy to add support for it.
  • Does the software contain modem classification tools?
Yes, both Krypto500 and Krypto1000 SIGINT software suites contain precision classification of THOUSANDS of target modems and work in milliseconds to identify the EXACT modem and protocols in use. It employs a technique far beyond modem recognition based on modulation recognition to give actionable intelligence information. Details are available on our Resources web page. Further, every decoder module contains a bitstream classifier that rapidly identifies protocols in use that aid in selecting the appropriate parser, identifying encoding, compression, encryption, network protocols and more. Details are available on our Parsers web page.
  • Is information available about the latest updates to Krypto500 or Krypto1000?
Yes, the latest releases of both SIGINT software suites are announced on our News webpage - simply search for 'release'. New releases are sent automatically ALWAYS contain more signals analysis tools, new digital signals decoders, support for new hardware, updates to parsers and RadioID (Krypto500) and other features. As if that weren't enough, there is also an LFSR classifier (Linear Frequency Shift Register) to identify polynomials in use
  • Can I analyze, classify or decode multiple channels concurrently? Do the two suites work together?
Yes, you can. There is no limit to the number of channels that can be decoded - that limitation will be imposed by your connection type to the SDR and the capabilities of the SDR itself. We have tested to as many as 32 channels per instance of Krypto500, and up to 10 instances running with one license. With Krypto100, there is virtually no limit except those imposed by your hardware or connection type. There is no limit to the number of channels that can be decoded - that limitation will be imposed by your connection type to the SDR and the capabilities of the SDR itself. See our resources web page for more details. IMPORTANT: Everyone asks 'how many' channels, but the truth is, while processing as few as 3-4 channels, most operators begin to lose track of targets, miss important information and make mistakes. Another common error is not to have sufficient screen size to properly display all the decoded information. Remember, the only limits are those you impose, as the software has none. Finally, yes, Krypto500 and Krypto1000 work together. Krypto1000 acts as a front end tuner and sends streams of VHF-SHF targets for prosecution inside Krypto1000 and ELF-HF targets for prosecution in Krypto500.
  • Is an Application Programming Interface (API) available?
Yes, our website describes Krypto1000 Server. There is no Server edition of Krypto500. Typical applications might be collecting hundreds of DMR channels from an entire border, or a remote, clandestine installation - it's really only limited by your imagination. Please remember that Krypto1000 Server does NOT have a graphical user interface (GUI), but all of the tools available in Krypto1000 are of course also available in Krypto1000 Server.
  • Is decryption available?
Yes, please review the KeyFinder web page. KeyFinder is an option for Krypto1000 for decryption of advanced formats such as DMR ARC4, and APCO25 (P25) ADP. Note that Krypto1000 itself also contains other forms of decryption such as commercial privacy SP, EP) and proprietary solutions for decrypting mobile radio geolocation data.
  • How long does the ITAR process take?
The export application process is out of our hands and therefore we cannot give an exact timeline. We monitor the process and our customer service is in continuous contact with every customer to relay the latest information available to us.
